Halibut Fishing Charters Homer Options

We offer several options for halibut fishing charters in Homer. Choose from either ¾ or full day options on our big, stable 56’ Ultimate or a full day trip on one of our 6-passenger boats.

Halibut Fishing

We fish for halibut using baits and jigs while the boat is anchored up. Guests can sometimes catch other species while targeting halibut, though these are bonus catches. The average halibut caught fishing from Homer, Alaska is around 14 pounds, but you never know when a much larger one will bite.

It can take anywhere from 1-3 hours to boat to the halibut fishing grounds from Homer harbor. It depends on weather conditions and where the fish have been biting. We are most often in sight of land.

Full Day Halibut Charter

A full day, straight halibut trip gives you the most time to target larger fish.

3/4 Day Halibut Trips

The ¾ day halibut trips give you the chance to spend a fun day on the ocean catching fish. The goal is not necessarily a big fish chasing trip, but big fish can certainly show up.

Homer halibut charter

Homer Alaska fishing charters are a bucket list experience for both local and visiting anglers. Homer is known as the Halibut Capital of the World—it is one of the most popular fishing experiences Alaska’s anglers seek. Halibut is a superior quality, mild and firm white fish that is particularly delicious and a lot of fun to catch. Halibut are bottom feeding fish that can grow to enormous sizes to over 8 feet in length and over 500 pounds! They are flat fish and both of their eyes are on the upper, dark side and their bellies are white. The largest halibut are called “barn doors”, and the smaller ones, “chickens”.

Landing a famous Alaska halibut begins with them first checking out your bait then inhaling it while they set themselves on a Circle hook. You’ll feel a continuous pull against the rod while you slowly crank the reel. Halibut are heavy bottom dwellers that lie in wait of their prey.  The rewarding experience of catching them is well worth the effort.
